Wolf Connection System (WCS)
The Wolf Connection System (WCS) is an early alert and intervention program that I implemented designed to identify students that have at-risk tendencies. Faculty members can refer students enrolled in their course(s) that are failing, or are in danger of failing. The system provides the faculty with a concise online referral form that has preset indicators. The faculty simply select the indicators that apply the student in question and are given the option to enter comments before submitting the referral. The referral is then sent to the university's student success specialist for review. In most cases, the student success specialist will attempt to contact the student and schedule a meeting with the student. While the population of struggling students is diverse, often times international students are referred. This type of digital-age referral process allows the student success specialist to gain a cultural understanding of the student and connect them with the best available campus resources. Additionally, it helps bridge the gaps in communication between faculty, students, and other support staff on campus.
